Brett Nilsson has long been devoted to his family, business and his community. He began his insurance career in
1979 in Ogden, Utah. Since then he has served on several insurance company "agent advisory councils." He was
a past vice president of the Ogden Jaycees, served on chamber of commerce committees and is a past president
of the Ogden Golf and Country Club. Brett is a past recipient of Utah's Agent of the Year and Young Agent of the
Year awards, and he received a Presidential Citation in 2001 from the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers
of America. In 2003, Mr. Nilsson received his state association's highest individual honor, the Burgener Award, a
distinction that has only been awarded six other times in the history of the Utah association.
Brett served as the President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Utah from 1992 to 1993. Shortly after,
he was elected to represent the State of Utah as their National Representative on the Board of Directors of the
Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America, which he did until 2002. He was appointed as the Chairman
of the National Association's finance committee where he served for 4 years. Later in 2002 he was elected to the
National Association's Executive Committee.
In 2006 he was elected to be the Vice President of the National Association at their annual convention in Las
Vegas, Nevada. He then went on to serve as the National Chairman of the Independent Insurance Agents and
Brokers of America from 2008 to 2009.
In 2007 Brett was appointed as the National Association's representative to the WFII (World Federation of
Insurance Intermediaries) where he has represented Independent Insurance Agents throughout America and the world. Meetings include agents from Australia,
South Africa, South America, Europe, China, Netherlands, Canada and other locations throughout the world.
Brett has been appointed to Chair the National Association's Professional Liability Committee dealing with
specialized coverage and carriers providing this protection. He has also been involved with evaluation and
testimony in Expert Witness cases regarding insurance matters.
Brett is a graduate of Weber State University. He and his wife, Nancy, live in Layton, Utah. They have four children
and ten grandchildren. He enjoys the outdoors, fishing, hunting, golf and spending time with his family.
